At the mention of a groom with the same power he had, or at least one of them, there was nothing to give her any indication he'd reacted to it at all. Inside, though, there was a spark of hope, one person out there - beyond his brother, and his dead unit - who knew for a fact he was as sane as anyone. Or would know, if he shared. Finally, a smile twinged onto his face - a crooked one, but not cocky or arrogant like normal. Simply there, like he couldn't bring himself to fully smile, though the intent was truly sincere.
Yeah, well, not everything is as it seems.
He replied softly, though anything he might have added got shoved aside by that feeling - a feeling of being watched. In an instant, he felt like his skin was too tight, like he couldn't breathe, but he hid it well under a mask of calm. He slowly rose from off the bench, glancing out of the corner of his eye. The slightly cautious look soon flipped a switch, transforming into a glare.
You're getting rusty if I got this close.
Caution to the wind now - mostly because it was just him and her and his horse - he didn't hesitate to speak back. Not after what she'd just told him, anyway.
Is it a shame to feel safe for a mere moment?
A snort came as a reply as the beast finally stepped out of the vegetation, still eying Tia as warily as before, but fearless as ever when it came to getting closer. He stopped just behind Gray, eyes on Tia, though his nose nuzzled at his rider's shoulder, earning him a scratch on the cheek.
What did you do to screw up this time? And, better yet, how crazy does she think you are?
You know you're an ass, right?
Of course. But who's the only one who can make you smile properly? And you still haven't answered my questions.
I'd love to see you ask her yourself.
He held in a yelp as he jerked his foot away, hopping back a few steps. Rico had stepped on it - hard. Though, really, he supposed he'd been asking for it. It didn't stop him from glaring at the stallion who was very visibly amused.

She gave him a long look. She was now rather amused. Her dark eyes were serious. ”You don’t know how well that fits.” she said softly, her eyes distant. She missed Shaman.
The sight of the horse made her stand up straighter. She was going to be careful. Then the man started to speak. To the horse. Her smile grew. Someone who could speak with animals! ”Oh my god. You can speak with animals! That is cool.” the nineteen year old went from a well educated guardian, to excited, child. She was way to happy, though she didn’t step towards them.
A snorte behind her sent her spinning. A gray mare moved forward. She tossed her head as she eyed the black before touching her rider’s hair. ”Sha! What are you doing here?” the gray mare whinnied softly, watching the human and the horse, moving a bit so she had her head over the woman. Protecting hers. She didn’t speak, waiting for the human to do what he was going to do.

Most people would disagree.
He replied softly, though his eyes were on his horse. Just because his eyes weren't looking, though, didn't mean he wasn't paying any attention. The ease with which Rico had shown up again had left him on high alert now, and he didn't even flinch at the snort. He'd been listening, hearing the cries of the nocturnal animals and using them to sort out what was coming.
Rico was equally expectant, though he shifted a moment behind Gray without saying a word. That was sign enough; there was something off about this horse. Hell, even he could sense it, but perhaps that was the empath powers speaking their piece. He wasn't sure. He wasn't about to turn them up and find out. He noticed the mare protect the girl, recognized immediately that he was seen, at least for the moment, as a threat.
Shaman, I assume. Graydon Taylor, and Ricochet. A pleasure.
Formal, as he would be with a superior officer. Perhaps a little strange to the girl, but there was something about her horse and that uncertainty was more than enough to make him careful with his word choice. Yet, he brazenly met the eyes of the mare head on, almost as if challenging her.

Tia didn’t answer. There was no need to. She touched the gray mare as the golden eyes locked on the human before her. ”And I am known as Shaman. You Ricochet, do not need to fear me. What are you, Graydon Taylor doing near MY rider?” the mare snorted again, steping lightly around her rider, and coming face to face with the human.
”What the hell?” she could see that Shaman was talking. This was a moment where she wasn’t acting like a damn horse. This was a problem. She stepped forward, and got a cocked hoof from Shaman. She froze. The only times Shaman attempted to kick her was when she was getting in the way. She took a step back. ”You, are dangerous, Graydon Taylor. Very Dangerous.” her eyes glowed a little as she stepped forward, shoving her nose into his chest, hard. But she didn’t think she’d push him over, just enough to get the point across. She watched him through half lidded eyes. ”You are dangerous, but so is she. Don’t try anything Ricochet. It’s pointless. Belive me, it is.”

He wasn't about to let her blame him for something he had no control over. The reckless behavior of his youth, the kind that had led him to running into a firefight rather than away, flared up as his shoulders drew back and he looked all the part of the soldier, though before he certainly hadn't. Rico stepped back, knowing for a fact this was not going to end well at all.
Last I checked, she was free to be where she wished and I certainly didn't hear her complaining.
Gray...
The stallion snorted nervously, knowing Gray was playing with fire, though he didn't know quite how literally. As the mare pushed at him, right over one of the scars from the bullets. His eyes narrowed at him, pushing back against her nose with equal force to how she had pushed on him. He wouldn't push back any harder without reason.
And I'd appreciate you respect my space as I would respect yours.
he could feel the crackle of his empath abilities, struggling to turn back on, to find a way to push her back, or perhaps to figure out her story and why she was so protective, so unnecessarily. It wasn't like he'd been threatening her. Hell, she'd been enjoying herself, so what the hell was this mare's problem?

Instead of pushing back the mare chuckled. The sound moving from her body as well as from her mind. ”Well aren’t you a brave one? And she can, but she had a bit of trouble staying out of trouble. So I tag along. You don’t know her mind, or at least you don’t want to, so how do you know she’s not complaining? Don’t assume. it makes an ass out of you and me.” she said stepping back. She’d been trying to see what he was made off. He was a good man. At least he seemed that way.
She could sence his shields breaking. ”Control yourself child. Your leaking.” she snapped at him, her head whipping owards him for a second, before turning and nuzzling Tia, who looked rather dumb founded at her horse. This was new. ”What is she saying? And don’t deny that she talks, I know she’s saying something.” she asked suddenly curious.

She's been free to leave. She stayed. I'd count that as not complaining. Therefore, it was not an assumption, but a perfectly valid hypothesis.
He always had a reason for saying things; never assumed, just made a logical deduction. He had been a straight A student, after all - and not just A's, but the very top of each and every class he took. He wasn't some stupid soldier who couldn't add or subtract. He could have had whatever job he wanted, he had the brains for it.
When she called him out on the shields breaking, it certainly didn't help him stop them from doing so. He already was trying to control them. His empathy was difficult to rein in without him being pushed like this. He used to have control over it; before he'd spent time on the battlefield, anyway. He'd had perfect control then; exemplary.
Oh, a couple things. It's nothing too big. For the most part, she's trying to put me in "my place". And it isn't about to work.
Stubborn as always, the last bit was directed more at the mare than her rider. Almost a challenge, but he wasn't stupid enough to make it a proper challenge. Reckless enough to be borderline, but that was it.

The gray mare snorted, glaring at him. Her yellow eyes angry. ”Mine is not as careful as she should be.” shaman snapped, stepping back. Anger making her flare for a second, then the fire disappeared conpleately and she nuzzled ‘hers’. Not that she’d ever tell Tia that. That was a very bad idea.
Tia gave the mare a bad look. ”Really? Sha please. I’m aloud to talk to anyone. It’s not like I can’t take care of himself. Hello, gun, Sword, Grew up on the streets. It’s not like I’m stupid or something.” she said giving the mare a glare. The mare didn’t care and continued to stand there, just a little head and between her and Gray. She intentionally stepped around the mare, tapping her nose, and making the mare snapp her head back. ”I’m sorry. I’m assuming she’s being a brat. Again. Ignore her. After all, normal horses don’t talk back do they?” she asked glancing back at the mare, Who gave her a selfasured look and stood her ground. Tia watched Gray carefully. He was a smart soldier. That was new. At least for now.
”So. Have you eaten yet tonight?” Her girn was one of those of challenge and amusment. She was testing him… in a way.

Normal horses don't talk back to normal people. I'm not normal, remember?
He replied with a little smile. Everything talked back to him. Horses, dogs, cats, mice, people... even insects, though they spoke far too fast to be understood. He watched as the intelligence behind the words clicked in her head, though he said nothing. He wouldn't, not unless she asked. And then... she asked something completely off topic. He blinked twice before managing to answer.
Well, yeah. At supper. Though it's been quite a few hours. It is sort of the middle of the night, if you haven't realized.
He replied, chuckling toward the end, leaning back against Rico as if the horse was a wall, now that the stallion was standing still again, though the stud still watched the mare closely. Gray was all but ignoring her now, at least until the mare brought attention back to herself.

The gray mare snorted. But she didn’t speak again. She wasn’t going to answer. ”True. But still. She should know better.” she glared at the mare, who looked innocent. As if she hadn’t just growled at the man. She was ‘normal’ again. Or at least normalish.
The woman smiled. ”Ah, but that was hours ago, and I’m used to eating at all hours of the night. As a cop you don’t always get time to stop for dinner. And I’m hungry. So I’ll pay if I can actually FIND the place that sells stuff to those of us workin’ late. It’s a nice place.”
she said with a shrug. ”Because someone wasn’t saddled, and of course, there’s food in the bags.” she said glared at him.[/blockquote] WORDS: what ever. he chuckled softly, shrugging his agreement. It had, indeed, been hours. He could eat. He was in that habit, too, of eating when he could, even now when he could eat when he wanted instead. He twined his fingers in Rico's mane, easily slipping up onto the stallion's back, despite the beast's height. He turned his gaze back on her, vaguely amused.
You could go through the trouble of finding some place to pay for food, or you could just come raid my pantry. It's free.
He replied, the words coming out before he really realized what he was asking. But, then again, he'd never been as much of a lone wolf as he liked to pretend he was. He depended on human interaction, and he rarely, if ever, got any. His house had yet to see a single guest, though it was still immaculately clean as it often was. He liked space, and space, no matter how large, never looked big enough when it was messy.

Tia watched him as he pulled himself up onto his big black horse. Then told her that she could go to his house and eat. She let a rather coy grin come toher lips as she turned and pulled herself up onto her own horse. The mare backed up a step, waiting for the black to lead the way. ”And who asks a pretty girl to come to their home in the middle of the night? Serial Killers? Weirdos? Well ok I guess you apply to the last one.” she said just before Tia spoke. ”Sure. It’s easier. Thanks.”
With that the mare fell into step behind the black. They were approximately the same size, but she was careful. Stay in his sights, stay far enough back that an errant kick couldn’t hurt her. Not that it could. A hell steed could move a great deal faster than any normal horse. ”Lead the way Gray.” she giggled a little at the rhyme.

He raised his eyebrows at the mare, but said nothing. He waited for Tia to be settled before clucking softly. That was all the encouragement Rico needed, and the black stallion spun on his haunches, whirling away and taking off towards Camelot, the gated community of Carvalo. In truth, the only gated community that existed at all. It took him mere minutes to reach the gate, Rico pulling up with a snort and a lively prance, impatiently awaiting the guards to open it up. They didn't waste any time; they didn't even need to see Gray's face, they recognized Rico's arrogant behavior anywhere.
From there, it was a light trot down the main road to the end, into the section where the largest houses were. Rico turned onto a well-worn path through the grass of a particularly large stone manor and Gray slipped off as Rico kept walking toward the stable at the back. He could let himself in. There was an inccessant squeaking at the window near the front door, the words muffled by the window pane. At least, until he opened up the door and a little fuzzy creature scampered up his leg and body to sit on his shoulder, long puffy tail shaking.
You'rehomeyou'rehomeyou'rehomeyou're-
Gray covered the fox squirrel's head with his palm, muffling the excited words with a chuckle. Then, he scooped up the creature in his hand.
Yes, yes, Dante, I missed you too. Now go bother Cobra and Casper, alright?
The squirrel screeched in annoyance at that; him and the kittens didn't get along particularly well. Nonetheless, he scampered off to somewhere else in the house, finally quiet and no longer screaming in that high pitched voice in Gray's ear; a relief.
Come on in. None of them bite - well, actually, Carmine might, but he's teething, and he won't break the skin.
At mention of his name, the little rottweiler puppy came trotting out, pressing up against Gray's leg a moment with a whine before flopping over, belly up. He scooped the canine up, cradling him like a baby, fist automatically positioned so the pup could gnaw on it, just out of habit now.

Tia and Shaman were moving easily after Rico and his rider. The mare was amused when Tia stiffened. Poor girl. She’d come from Camelot. Now she was living on the edge of town. It wasn’t a bad neighborhood, but it wasn’t great either. The mare walked through the gates as if she owned the place, ignoring Tia’s reaction.
Tia dismounted and stopped looking up at the house. Or the silhouette. It was beautiful. And big. She’d been born in a huge house, in fact it was a few streets away, but this was HUGE. Shaman nuzzled her and followed Rico. Tia followed Gray inside. She saw the squirrel, and then the rest. The puppy was adorable. ”He’s cute. You have a squirrel. Why do you have a squirrel?” she was more curious, than discusted.

He noticed her reaction to the house, but he didn't react. Instead, he just shut the door behind her and slipped his boots off, moving into the house and chuckling at her reaction to Dante. He made sure to crack a window open so that Shaman could hear everything, should she be concerned. He wasn't stupid, nor did he have a death wish.
I found Dante as a baby under a tree. He'd fallen out of his nest, pretty much on the verge of death. The case of most of these guys, actually. When he was old enough to fend for himself, I placed him outside and he hasn't put a paw out the door since, unless it's to get to me from the door. Silly thing's afraid of the outside world. But, I've got the space.
He replied, moving towards the kitchen and setting Carmine in a dog bed, next to a bone he'd found on one of his messenger runs. The deer had been almost cleaned by then by scavengers, so he'd stocked up on bones, knowing Carmine would be teething soon. They were useful, and saved any furniture in the house. He pulled open the cold room, disappearing inside a moment to rummage for some stuff; bacon, milk, eggs, fruit. He poked his head back out.
Pancakes and bacon sound alright? It is, technically, very early morning after all.
